I want to begin with Emine Keskin's presentation. Her lesson was very enjoyable actually. Reading something may be very boring for some students but she made the lesson so enjoyable that I am sure nobody gets bored during the lesson. Student participation was very good. She used cards while telling the story.. I think this is very creative because the cards both attracted students' interest and helped them to remember most important points of the story. Theacher's instructions were clear . We could understand what to do. However, there are some points need to be improved. She gave a piece of paper to the students and asked them to draw something. She used this activity as an post reading activity . It was an enjoyable activity but it is not so beneficial for students. May be she can make the activity more beneficial by improving it. For example, she can ask students to describe the thing they drew. And also She can give more time for the reading context because teacher told the story (main parts of it) students listened to it . They couldn't read it in detail.
ReplyDeleteSecond presentation was a sample of very well-planned reading lesson. I liked very much her reading activities. The chart that she gave before the passage was a good tecnique because it gave us some idea about he topic. Her vocabulary activities was also good since it enabled students to understand the meaning from the context. Debate was also a good way to make every student speak during the lesson. I really liked her lesson.
Emine Keskin's presentation was really nice generally. She knows how to make a lesson funny for the students. First she showed some pictures and wanted the students to share their ideas and compose their own stories. Almost everyone participated in the class. And cards that she used were not very descriptive of the character in that way students' creativity can come into play and it is a good way to take the attention of the students. There were some points that need to be improved. The last activity for example was useless I guess because students omly drew something. Maybe she could give time to students to write a description of a person who is wearing their imaginative costume. This includes language. And I agree Seval in that she did not spend much time in reading the story.
ReplyDeleteThe second presentation was perfect. I really enjoyed it. She showed a picture and gave a card in which there were vocabulary from the passage. This familiarizes the students with what they will read. We read the passage critically to answer the questions and it makes it sure that students understand the passage clearly. Post reading activity was a debate and it was really fun. It gave a chance the students to discuss and speak. She provided exact participation and direct the lesson very well.
I was not able participate or see Emine's presentation but I had the chance to participate in her last activity. since I was not in the class at the beginnig of the session or presentation I couldn't understand exactly what the main purpose of drawing a picture activity was. I can say that it was enjoyable to some extent, on the other hand I think it was waste of time. Because students just drew the picture and didn't do anything. Maybe, students could have been given the chance to talk about their pictures.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to second presentation, I can say that Selva Hoca was great. She did her job in a professional manner. The topic was interesting and the activities were enjoyable. Generally reading is seen as a boring activity by students, however she showed us how reading can be both enjoyable and attractive. She knows how tp engage all students in the activities. The last disscussion activity was very successful since it gave students the opportunity to express themselves and also it was related to the yopic that was dealt in the class.
I liked Emine Keskin’s presentation very much. If I’m not mistaken, her students were ninth grade according to her lesson plan and her activities were very suitable for that group of age. Students who are at these ages can both learn and enjoy in such a lesson. Even we, as university students, didn’t get bored with her activities. They were very creative and we actively participated in her lesson. She integrated speaking skill with the reading. I think it was one of the most successful aspects of the presentation because just reading a text and asking-answering a few questions may have been monotonous and boring. Moreover, teacher was very motivating. She was always smiling. It was clear that she interested in the lesson. She even tried to learn our names in such a short time. However, I also agree that the lesson could have included some more reading. Because it was originally a reading lesson, we should have dealt with the reading passage much more in detail. For example; one of us could have read it aloud and she could have stopped him/her at one point and asked a question us to check the comprehension. Besides, I also think that post-reading activity should be improved a bit. I found it not useless as my friend Merve said, but a bit aimless. There was no input. Drawing was a good idea to give students some fun; nevertheless, it could have been an activity integrating speaking or writing related to the reading passage.
ReplyDeleteEce Selva Küçükoğlu’s presentation was also very good. She was really good at her job because it is evident that she loves it very much. She seemed very excited about teaching reading. The aim of the lesson was very clear. Her materials (PPT and sheets, handouts) were visually appealing. Her instructions were very understandable. She applied different activities to all of the reading stages accordingly. She showed us a picture to create a context. She prepared a chart for the pre-reading step. By making us guess which words on the chart may or may not be in the text, she aroused our curiosity. Her reading passage was very meaningful in terms of its topic and was not too long to get us bored. Her last activity was a group work. She chose a controversial topic and had us discuss about it. We had the highest level of motivation and interest in this activity.
To sum up, both presentations were very successful and I am glad to have observed them. At the end of these presentations, I wished I could have been a good teacher like our two presenters.
I want to start with Emine Keskin’s presentation. Her activities were proper for the level of the students. She managed to create an enjoyable classroom atmosphere. Her showing some pictures and asking for students’ opinions created an interaction and communication environment. Composing a story with their creative imagination helped students to get more interested in the topic. Although her teaching was generally nice and affective, the last activity was a bit out of the topic. I mean, it was not related to a reading lesson. However, having such an encouraging teacher in the classroom will help students to concentrate on the lesson.
ReplyDeleteThe second presentation performed by Selva Hoca was perfect. She knows how to conduct a lesson and make students involved. Although a reading lesson is seen as boring by most of the students, Selva Hoca knows how to make a reading lesson funny. Her pre and while listening activities helped students to comprehend the passage better in a systematic way. They both understood the passage and learnt new vocabulary items during these activities. In addition, these activities helped students to develop their critical thinking. Her post reading activity was a debate and it was really fun for students. Thanks to this activity, students had a chance to improve their speaking and discussion skills.
Emine Keskin’s presentation was a good example for us. She was so energetic that make the students enthusiastic about the lesson. Pictures were interesting and took our attention to the topic of the text that we will read. She did her best to make the lesson funny and enjoyable. She asked questions about carnivals and other festivals in Turkey. She tried to increase our participation and somehow related us with the topic. Using cards by telling the story was very creative. She wanted us to describe the cards and contribute the story. Her instructions were clear and she spoke fluently. That’s why we could understand what we would do. However last activity in which we were supposed to draw a picture did not have any input to develop our level of English. Maybe she could ask us to describe what we draw, which we could do a speaking activity at the same time in addition to having fun with these drawings.
ReplyDeleteI want to continue with a quotation from Merve Hopa’s reflection “The second presentation was perfect”:) I actually enjoyed it, too. She knew what she was doing and why. She did the reading activity purposeful with giving us some exercises to look for in the text. Reading in this part was not only enjoyable but also instructional. She gave importance to the class participation at the same time. Her materials were so good and useful. Her last activity was so much enjoyable. It was useful in developing students’ speaking ability. At every part of the lesson she tried to support students. It was so clear that she loves her job and makes students comfortable lowering their affective filter towards new things. Her energy made us motivated and increased our interest for all of the activities.
fisrt of all, I am very glad to have been involved in both of these presentations. they were both interesting and enjoyful. I found Emine keskin's presentation very creative and enjoyful. she were really successful in making lesson enjoful for us. it was really interactive course. all of us were actively involved in the lesson and it was really different experience for me. she was very motivating and we all were willing to participate the lesson. we all used our imagination, and I think making up story like in this presentation improve students' critical thinking. For the last acivity, I agree with my friends. it was really enjoyful, but I think there was no so much to learn from it.I think it was more appropriate as a contingeny plan, because it was actully just for fun. for selva Hanım's presentation, I think it was very professional.everything was well organized.ıt was clear that she thought about every activity and their aims beforehand.almost all of them were comprehension based. by using KWLH technique, she expected us to make guesses.by this activity, she took ur attention to the topic and made us familiar with the topic.also it increased our comprehension on the topic.post-reading acitivty was the my favourite one. it was a discussion and ı always find it very useful.because it requires active participation and ciritcal thinking.students share their ideas with others and they learn from each other which is again very importan, I think.A s I said before, her presentation was perfect and good example for me.
ReplyDeleteI think Emine Keskin's presentation was more likely a speaking presentation. We created the scenario by looking the pictures and mostly we talked about a story. We just saw the whole text at the end of the lesson to summarise the story again. In spite of what I thought, the lesson was very good, enjoyable, funny but not well-prepared. In the summarising part, she gived colourful papers with pictures on them but those pictures didn't include all the story in it. So there were some missing parts but still it was good. It can be done as a speaking presentation :).
ReplyDeleteFor Ece Selva Küçükoğlu's presentation. It was a well organized and classic presentation. The topic is not a very very interesting one but the pre reading activity was good. About post reading part, discussion was a well thought activity and it was enjoyable. However, when we look at the overall, I won't say "it was perfect."
There are lessons that are both enjoyable and informative or having a tendency to teach. The first presentation has the enjoyable part but not the second. On the other hand, the second presentation has the informative part but not perfectly the first.
Emine Keskin’s presentation was very good. She grabbed students’ attention to the reading text with the help of the cards in pre-reading activity. She let students describe the characters according to their wishes, which enable students to be more involved in the lesson. Smooth transitions were done between activities. The aims of the activities were clear for most of the time. As most of my friends said, students might be asked to describe the clothes rather than drawing. The activity was enjoyable but making students use their language skills would be more useful for them.
ReplyDeleteEce Selva Küçükoğlu's presentation was also a successful one. She directed students’ interest to the text with the help of a guessing activity. I learnt that even if the reading text is not very interesting, it is possible to make students read it with interest thanks to effective activities. Debate was a very entertaining activity to finish the lesson. Students not only did the reading but also used what they got from the text in role-play. Overall, both of these presentations were good.
hi all!
ReplyDeleteEmine Keskin's reading presentation was very enjoyable,I think. there are lots of points that I like . First of all, she had a positive attitude towards students which helped to decrease students' affective filter. Thus, students were more likely to attend the reading activities coz' they did not feel threatened. secondly, the way she organize the activites was effective for instance; she showed the cards and helped students make up the story step by step. however; I think the last activiyt which was intended to be done as a post-activity could be a contigency plan since it was enjoyable but a bit lacks of aim. also, she had better indicate time in order not to create a confusion among students. all in all, she prepeared and presented a good reading presentation.
when it comes to second presentation, ı just admire the way she presented it. she made the reading activity much more enjoyable than I thought. at first, the visual aid which was PPP was very suitable for the reading passage and it took the students' attention.besides, the following activity was so effective that I used in my reading presentation as well with my partner. the comprehension questions were clear and the last activity was perfect since it gave a chance students to talk as well and it was directly related to the reading passage. It was a really well-organized presentation.
Since Emine Keskin was the first teacher to present, I want to write about her presantation first. As that presantation had been done few times before ( I think I heard something like that), I can say that it was almost impeccable. I am sure that her first presantation was not so perfect, but it is good learning from past experiences. Anyway, first of all she was very energetic and fluent and accurate during the presantation ( to me, the reason behind her fluency and accuracy is the fact that she did the same presantation before. Actually, she should work a bit more. ) Activities were enjoyable, but, as my friends said, they are a bit useless. Waste of time, I think. Also pictures could be drawn better . Her presantation and reading material are applicable to low levels of English learners. So the difficulty of the reading part is well-determined, but the story would have been more interesting. At the beginning of my comment I used a word, “impeccable, and then counted a few bad things about her and her presantation. It may seem to you as a contradiction; however, since quality is more important than quantity, overall goodness of the presantation will cover those bad things which are abundant in quantity, but low in quality.
ReplyDeleteThere is not too much to say about the second presantation. I liked her managing the classroom and the lesson, and especially, her sense of humour. Maybe late commers may not have seen her originality in that talent. She was an experienced teacher, at least more experienced than the former one. And her experince was felt in every stage of the presantation. In terms of student participation, the former one better. Maybe it is because of the fact that the requirements of the reading passages and the level of the lessons are different from each other. The only bad thing that I can remember from his presantation is the bloody pictures. More sightly pictures about the topic should have been found, I think.
I want to start with evaluating Emine Keskin’s presentation. Actually, her lesson was quite enjoyable, I didn’t get bored during the class. The teacher asked students their opinions during the class activities and I liked the interactive class environment.I also liked the way that she made the students create the story because it helps to improve the students’ creativity. Because of the teacher’s positive attitude towards the students, the students participated actively in the lesson. Moreover; the activities she did were various and suitable for the reading text which was a short story. The visuals she used were appropriate to refresh the students’ schemata, as well. The instructions were so clear that I didn’t get lost while doing the activities. However; one thing attracted my attention which is that she didn’t give time to each activity. This may create a disorder between the activities. When it comes to Ece Selva Küçükoğlu’s presentation, it was enjoyable, too. The aim of the lesson was clear and the vocabulary she taught was related to the context. The way she gave the instructions was clear and effective. Because of her experience she has more dominance over the class than the previous presenter. The discussion session as a post- reading activity was the part that I liked most because it was an interactive way of teaching and also enjoyable. It helps students to improve their communication skills, social aspects, as well. Overall, both the two presentations were successful.
ReplyDeleteI think Emine Keskin’s presentation is very good. The story she chose was interesting and attracted our attention. Her passage was appropriate for intermediate student level. She smiled and tried to make lesson more interesting. She used her mimics and gestures effectively. She integrated speaking skill with the reading. Her instructions are clear. We understood what to do. Her lesson was very fun and interesting but could have more reading related because our target skill was reading but this lesson was much more like speaking lesson. Moreover post-reading activity’s instructions were a bit confusing but made us really relaxed and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteEce Selva Küçükoğlu’s presentation was also very good. When I compare the two presentations Ece Selva Küçükoğlu’s one is better because she is more experienced and confidant. As far as I see, she loves her job very much and she teaches eagerly. Her topic was interesting and pictures chosen were attracted our attention. We participated willingly. Pre-listening activity was a very effective and like brain-storming before the while-reading part. Worksheets, power point presentations are effective and useful. The passage was appropriate for our level. Her instructions were very clear. There were variable activities. Finally post reading activity was a very good choice. Discussion made us excited and gathered our interest again and we also made speaking activity.
I think both of the presentations were very good. but there is a point that I want to state in Ece hoca's presentation. she was a really nice teacher, but I found her power points very bloody. I felt really bad while looking at them. while we were doing activities the bloody picture stayed on the board and that made me really uncomfortable. I think we as teachers shouldn't use such pictures in our classes as that can make students feel bad. they can be negatively affected. other than this point, her lesson was quite successful and she managed to make all class participate to her lesson. we had fun while learning. she was a really good and experienced teacher. she managed the class well.
ReplyDeleteEmine Keskin's presenatation was great:) she was very nice and warm. she has a good way of presenating a lesson. her speaking was also good and she made us enjoyed the lesson. I loved her teaching:)
I want to start with Emine's presentation. It was very successful since she accomplished the get the students' attention. Generally, students get bored of reading lessons but she did not make us feel bored since she chose an attractive story and provided us to think creatively. Secondly, Ece Hoca was also very successful. Her activities were very related to the subject. They were in a circle. Emine Keskin should include more activities related to reading. I could not find something to be improved for Ece Hoca's presentaiton.
