  1. hi all,
firstly I want to mention seda&derya presentation. as a whole it was attractive and successful presentation. what I mean by attractive was that it was successful in taking students' attention and interest to the topic. the topic was suitable for that age level. nowadays, young people really have fun in watching tv series. in the past, watching American tv series were not such common. people generally watched tv and Turkish series. Nowadays both turkish and american series have become common. so, seda and deryaa was very succsful in choosing topic, I think. as a pre writing activity, they asked us which movies we watch, we talked about our favourite series and therefore, they could succeed in taking our attention to the topic. then seda presented a slide show including some favourite Turkish and American series and have some basic information about them. selection of these series were also good, they considered the students' favourites and interests while choosing.I mean, they choosed the movies that were watched by most of us. so there were common interest on the topic. while writing activity was also very creative in my opinion. they expected us to make comparision between a Turkish and an American series. I found this activity very effective because this comparision was not only valid for just a tv serial, I mean, by comparing two diferent series, we also compared two different cultures as the series, to some extent, reflect the culture of that country. this activity also increased students' participation and cooperation as it was a group activity. while we were doing this activity, they were walking around us, checking what we were doing and asking whether we need any help, this aspect of presentation was also good, the control of the class was good. as a post writing activity, we read what we have written and they gave us feedback. other studetns also participated in the feedback session. this point was also good. everyone was active in both acitivities and feedback session. the weak point that ı would like to mention was the last acitivity. I guess they planned it as a contingency plan. actually it was very creative activity as well, but thw time for this was limited and nt suitable. for this activity, it would be better to prepare for it. I mean, without preparation, by just watching once, it was not so effective and succesful for role play. that's why most of the students were unwilling to pariticipate in this role play activity. instead of role play, they may asked for our reflections and comments about them. I think this would be more efficient. however this was also truth that although they were 'victims' not 'volunteers' they had really fun for playing their role and we had also fun for watching. so, anyway, seda and derya did a good job ;)

  2. secondly,I want to talk about mehmet and burcu's presentation. As a whole, it was also very well-organized presentation. selection of topic was good, as the topic is very popular in today's world. plastic surgery and aesthetic are very popular and controversial issues. so by this topic, they could succeed in taking our attention. also they could relate the subject with the daily life by asking us questions about our ideas on this issue. to make us more familiar wtih the subject, they presented a slide show, showing us pictures of people that undergoing plastic surgery. actually, this presentation was very persuasive on the point that we have seen that after plastic surgery, most people could look worse than before. so they gave us the message that we have to think twice before undegoing a plastic surgery.they gave example of Michael Jackson and hey showed us a video consisting of different outlooks of him after various surgeries. this video and giving him as an example was also very effectivestrategy I think as almost everyone is fond of him, so giving some message through him was very effective. they also gave us some information about advantages and disadvantages of aesthetic surgery in the slide show. then as a while writing activity, they asked us to form a group of four , and then they also divided each group into two in itself. then asked for argumentative essay, in each group, one pair wrote the advantages of aesthetic and the other pair wrote the disadvantages of it. we both used the information given in the slide show and we also contributed the wiriting by our real life experiences. then as a after writing activity, pairs in the same group combined their writings and so there became an argumentative essay. I found this acitivity very creative and efficient. at the end, they showed us a video of Michael Jackson, it really took our attention and it was good for ending of a lesson, but I think it was somehow irrelevant to the other parts of the lesson. but as a contingency plan it was ok! thanks for my friends for this creative and persuasive presentation:)

  3. first of all, Mervecim:) thank you for all your comments. we are really glad to see that you like our presentation. reading your comments we have been motivated to do better micro teachings in the future, thank you:) when it comes to our last activity, you are right we may have planned that activity in a different way, but we thoght it may be fub for students that's why we added an act out activity to our presentation. obviously students were not so willing to participate but it became a very good feedback for us, next time we will more carefully plan a post writing activity:)

  4. dilara&merve's presentation:
first of all ,I want to mention that their topic were very smartly chosen. as the christmas is approaching, it is certain that students will pay attention to that topic and it makes them integrate the lesson to their life. when they see something about christmas they will remember he voclabulary and activity of the lesson, so I believe the topic was very suitable. also, I really like their giving backgroung information about christmas that is motivating and interesting, because students feel that they are really learning something, they are improving themselves. as the while-writing activity they gave sheets and I really appreciate them because these sheets were very well prepared. I think they put much effort to prepare them, because there were many pictures and some guiding sentences on them. therefore, I believe both merve and dilara will be very hardworking teachers:) besides, giving guiding sentences was very wise. thus, students know what to write and never get lost. at the end of this writing activity we noticed that as different groups whole class wrote an unified story that was also a very succesful and enjoyable activity. on the oher hand there is a point that I would like to state. I really wanted them to make us write a Christmas post card so that students would learn how to wirte a card and send them to their pen friends (if they don't have pen friends teacher can fin for them:)) but that is just an idea when the topic is the christmas. finally, I am glad to see that both merve and dilara were very teacher like and they could control and monitor the class in an excellent way:)

  5. Mehmet and Burcu's presentation:
their topic was really exraordinary. I am really curious about how they came up with that idea. as their previous presenatiton, this presentation was higly academic. I thnik they will both become very academic teachers:) their lesson was very well organized. they stated crucial points. I love their messsage like "if this is outside, what is going on inside" (or something like that:)) they distributed useful sheets to us and succesfully managed the class. the only point that I can mention is that maybe there can be more pictures related to celebrities that have undergone aesthetic surgery on their power points. other than that it was a very succesful and academic lesson. their transition between the activities were smooth and their last acvity (watching moon walk:)) was very enjoyable:)

  6. First of all, I want to thank all of the presenters that I observed because all of them were very good at their jobs. They seemed well prepared. I really enjoyed all the microteachings.

For Pınar and Gökhan’s writing presentation:
My friends’ mini lesson was very good, I liked it a lot. Because New Year was approaching, their activities were related to it. I think it was a good idea to create a context and draw students’ attention to the lesson. It was a positive side of their presentation. Another effective point was that they used a song. Students listened to it and they were expected to fill in the blanks in the lyrics. With the help of this activity, they integrated listening with writing skill. This song helped students to improve their both skills. The only bad side of this activity was its being a bit not understandable. When they asked us which words came to the blanks, there were not many answers even though we listened to it twice. I think they could have chosen a more understandable song. However, they taught us a few words in power point slides that they thought we may not know their meanings in order to make our task easy because some of these words were in the song. They thought that, through these words we could understand it more easily, but it also didn’t work so much. Maybe this was because of us, we couldn’t concentrate on it because, in my opinion they, did their best so that we could understand the song and its missing words. Anyway it was a very well-thought activity in terms of including many target skills. Also these kinds of activities make students participate in activities much more. In short I liked this idea. Furthermore, they brought postcards to the class. They were very nice and colorful. By using them, we were asked to write our wishes in the New Year from our grandparents. They also prepared power point slide for this activity and showed us some objects that we could select in order to want our grandparents to buy us. They made the task easy for us. By doing this activity, we didn’t give the name of the object which we wanted; and after finishing our writing, we read it in front of the class and our friends tried to guess what it was. I think it was a very successful activity because that secret gave our friends a purpose and made them listen to us. Otherwise, they might not give their attention to us and so to the lesson. Not revealing the name of the objects made the activity more meaningful. Lastly it was very kind of them to give these postcards to us. Thank you for that, as well. Overall it was a very successful writing presentation. Thanks for your efforts:)

  7. I also agree with my friend Seda in terms of her ideas about Burcu and Mehmet’s writing presentations. Both of them were very successful. Both were very talented in teaching. They behaved like real teachers. They looked very comfortable, so this made us also feel relax. We did their activities without much concern. They also gave us sheets including some guides about how to write an argumentative paragraph. The only bad side of this activity was that their sheets didn’t include all of the forms. If I’m not mistaken, they had only forms which opponents of the idea could use. Still other sheets lead us in writing a lot. They were also very helpful and I think they were enough for us to get the gist. Their topic choice was very very effective because through them, we saw that aesthetic surgeries aren’t always beneficial. It was very informative. They showed us many good and bad examples of these surgeries. We learned many things from their presentation. They made us think about aesthetic surgeries one more time. At the end of their lesson, they also gave us the chance to listen to one of the songs of Michael Jackson. It was a good idea to finish the lesson with such a good song. I thank both of them:)

  8. Firstly, I want to say all the presentation were very successful. Everybody found intersting topics for writing.
I want to comment on Çiğdem and Ahmet's micro-teaching:
It was very interesting. They chose some of the most famous films and provided us pictures from these films. These visual materials helped us to remember the films at first. Then, we wrote dialogues from the scenes of these films and adjusted it to our culture. It was a creative activity. Everybody created an enjoyable dialogue and displayed it i front of the class. Role play activities can help students to come over their anxiety and get used to feeling comfortable. One thing to say, there could be one more activity related to this films. Students may write reflections about the films or something like that. In total, it was a nice presentation. I liked Irmak and Duygu's role play very much:))

  9. For Gökhan and Pınar's presentation:
It was also a successful presentation. The topic was a really current one. "Christmas", this topic can make the beginner and intermadiate students enjoy very much with the lesson. Also, they integrated listening activity into the wrting lesson, which increased the diversity of the lesson and make the students motivated. The song was appealing to the students interest. Also, they brought very very nice Christmas cards for us to write on. The cards were impressing. In the real classroom atmosphere, these cards would increase the motivation of the students.

  10. It is obvious that all of my friends are doing well with their writing presentations. Everybody or each groups tries to do their best in these presentations because everybody knows that these presentations are just like micro teachings and we should benefit from them as much as possible.
We are supposed to write reflections to two of the groups so I will write comments first to Merve and Dilara’s presentation. Their topic was very appropriate because as we all know that Christmas is coming and it is just ahead of us waiting there with lots of new expectations and hopes. So this makes the topic a hot issue. They started their presentations in a really good way. They introduced Santa Claus and what he does. It was very effective since many people may not be aware of him or the story behind this figure. I found the last group activity quite successful. It was not only enjoyable but also well organized. They guided us or the students during writing process. They gave clues and vocabularies that should be used in the text. The vocabulary was really helpful while writing the expected text. Finally each group read their writings and we realized that in fact all separate writings that the groups wrote were pieces of a whole story. This made also the activity interesting. In general they were quite successful. They clearly stated what is going to be done and instructions were clear. The stages of the lesson were clear. The only thing that I can advise to my friends that they should be more careful in class management because it hard to get the attention of the students after losing the control.
When it comes to presentation of Seda and Derya, they were also quite successful in their presentation. Their topic was very interesting and it was about TV series. They really had a good start and in pre-writing session they integrated visual aids into class very well. They wanted comments about TV series both in America and Turkey. They appealed the attention of students very easily. In while writing session they wanted students to write a letter to the producer of one of the TV series in a compare contrast type of writing. They showed an example of a letter related to topic. It was very effective since it made things easier. Also the guessing part related to writings was also quite interesting. It made students listen to what their friends wrote. They used clear language and instructions. The stages were clear and there was no problem at all. I think Derya was a bit more excited than Seda:)… In general they were quite successful as all of my friends.

  12. Hi all,
I want to talk about Burcu and Mehmet’s presentation. They showed a video about Michael Jackson as an example to plastic surgery. It was very impressive. Then they listed advantages and disadvantages of plastic surgery on the board. Then they asked students to write a paragraph making use of those ideas as a group. They showed an example paragraph in order for students to follow the structure of it, which was very useful. The video “moon-walk” was very nice for the post writing activity. They gave clear instructions, and the transitions between the activities were smooth. Overall, it was a nice presentation. Thank you for your effort... :)

  13. Hi all,
I want to talk about Irmak and Duygu’s presentation. They introduced the topic by showing pictures of famous people. They asked students what those people o the pictures have in common. Then they asked what are the advantages and disadvantages of being a famous person. Then they asked students whether they would like to be famous or not, which was a good way to make students talk and share their ideas with the class. Then they distributed a list of quotations asking students to select the one they liked most and to write an explanation of that quotation. Listing several proverbs and letting students to choose their favorite among them was an effective way in terms of attracting students’ attention to writing. They gave clear instructions. Their lesson was very interactive, and they give feedback to students in a successful way. Overall, it was a nice presentation. Thanks for your effort… :)

  14. First of all, All presentations were really successful. My friends’ preparations were excellent. All presenters covered all writing stages successfully. To start with, Mehmet and Burcu’s presentation, their activities were really good. Their topic was interesting enough to get the attention of the students. Michael Jackson is such a person that you can get the attion with him wherever you are. Visual aids in the presentation helped students comprehend the text better. As the teachers – mehmet and burcu- were always smiling, the lesson passed enjoyable. Students need such kind of teachers in real life, too.
Merve and Ayşenur’s presentation was another good example. They started the lesson showing a covered object and wanted the students to guess the object. This helped to get students’ attention to the lesson and the topic. Teaching how to write a descriptive paragraph was really successful. Thanks to it, students started writing by knowing what they are doing. Each presentation was really awesome. I see my friends as the great teachers of the future

  15. hi everyone!

firstly, ı want to thank all of my friends because they all well-prepared for these writing presentations. ı want to mention Seda'S and Derya'S presentation. they chose a very capturing topic, namely, the soap operas. almost everyone watches TV so all of the students were eager to listen and write about tihs issue. so they wanted to us compare and contrast the TV series of TurKEy and the ones in Usa. so the students wrote their compare and contrast pharagrahs easily. both derya and seda were really helpful .and I must say that they were really well-organized

  17. I want to talk about Seda and Derya’s presentation. It has a very interesting and attractive topic. We all participated in their lesson because their subject was TV series and we all are familiar with series. It was very successful in terms of choosing activities and topic. Both were applicable to young age groups. Instructions were clear and they smiled during the lesson. The activity of writing a compare contrast paragraph was a good choice because as I said before everyone is familiar with these TV series and they could easily write. In addition to write the paragraph with a group also was good as we could share ideas and write the paragraph easily and this also helped students improve collaboration.

  18. I want also to talk about Selman and Mustafa’s presentation. It was amazing. I really liked it very much. Vampires are mystical and interesting fantastic characters and it was a good choice. In addition nowadays there is a new trend Twilight about vampires and most of the teenagers are fond of it. So vampires as a lesson topic were attractive. Their activities were also interesting and fun. We all participated in lesson. Teachers were communicative and they made us speak. I liked most the post writing activity. It was creative and each student could speak. However their voice was a bit low but they smiled to us.

  19. Seda&Derya’s Presentation:
To start with, the writing activity which was writing a letter to the producer of a tv series was very enjoyable. The teacher was also very friendly and her attitude towards the students was very motivating. The topic itself was interesting enough to attract the students . Moreover; the visual aids including the photos of the characters and some scenes were useful to make the students participate in the class. The acting-out activity was a good post-writing activity, as well. However; there may be some problems with the acting-out activity in terms of the students because they may not want to act out, so another post-writing activity may be prepared. Overall, it was a well-prepared presentation. Thanks for their efforts=)

  20. Selman&Mustafa’s Presentation:
Firstly, the beginning movie is interesting and helpful to introduce the topic and catch the atten of the students. The pictures that the teacher showed very helpful to the characteristics of vampires. The while and post-writing activities were interesting and enjoyable to do because the students thought themselves as if they were vampires and completed the sentences. The class environment was very friendly, as well. The topic was attractive and the workload was enough. Overall, it was a good presentation. Thanks for their efforts=)…

  21. Hi everyone;
I want to start wit mehmet and burcu's presentation.I really liked their lessons. First of all their choice of topic was really successful because it was a topic that is controversial in our days. they started their lessons with a video about Michael Jackson that shows his transition after the operation he had and the video was such effective that it really attract my interest. They showed us some pictures of people experiencing bad results of esthetic operations. Their writing activity was also well related to the topic and they helped us in the writing process by showinng some examples that explain us how to write. It was interesting and equipped with visual aids.

  22. I also want to talk about seda and derya's presentation as all of my friends do:D
The thing that I liked mostly in their presentation was the topic. They selected american and turkish tv series which are very popular and watched by almost everyone. They wanted us to write a letter to producer of these films in which we are asked to compare one american tv series with one turkish tv series. Both topic and activity was enjoyable and derya really had good interaction with us during writing process. They also made us act out a dialogue from a famous series. This activity was enjoyable but it could have been organized better. Overall, I liked and enjoyed their lesson. Thanks derya and sedaaaa:D

  23. cigdem and ahmet's presantation
They prepared a powerpoint presentation to make us remember some movies. Then they had us write a alternative scene which is more convenient to our culture. Later on all students acted it out. This activity is useful one because students create something and they act out it in front of the classroom. the movies are well-known ones therefore it is very enjoyable task for them to do. Also the activity help them to overcome their anxiety.

  24. Gokhan and Pınar 's presentataion
They chose a current topic which was Christmas. They made us listen a song and fill the blanks. This was a useful activity for the lower grades. They also deliver some blank Christmas card for us to write to one of our friends. This is a creative activity and it helps to draw students' attention since the cards were really attractive.

  25. I agree with my friend Irmak. each of the presentations she mentioned above was very useful in itself. Çiğdem and Ahmet used role-play which is I think one of the best activities that can be applied to the children. as it is fun and most of the students enjoy it.moreover there can be shy students in the calssroom and this role play activity may help to overcome this feeling and make them feel more comfortable in front of his or her friends.

one of the key points in a lesson is to catch the attention of students and I THİNK Gökhan and Pınar achieved this successfully. colorful greeting cards were very lovely

    ReplyDelete
  26. Firstly for presentation of Gökhan and Pınar:

The topic was chosen well. It was perfect for the time of year, so it blended in well. The song activity was cool -idea wise-, but I think a more friendly song may have been chosen. Even we had difficulties carrying out the task. Writing activity with post cards was great. Instructions were given clearly and ample amount of background information was presented. The fact that it was a natural writing activity made it more useful I think. Overall I think it was a colorful and enjoyable presentation.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Secondly for presentation of Semra and Rüveyda:

I have to say, lesson was supported perfectly with visual aids. They were all colorful and inviting which helped a lot getting involved in the lesson. I specially liked the idea of taking students' writings back to write feedback and give back. I believe it feels extremely discouraging when no feedback is given to your work and this was a great way to prevent that. Also, the film blended in perfectly; it was a nice choice. Only minor issue was the choice of topic I think. Personally I don't feel comfortable talking/writing about abstract things and there might be others feeling the same. Also, it may sound a bit private for some. But still these don't change the fact that it was great presentation.

  28. Also, thank you very much for your comments about our presentation. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
